The Greatest Influence In My Life. | Go to post

Since young, he was always there to look after my siblings and I. He ensured that we have a place in which we could call home, a well-firmed education and most importantly, he showered us with love and care.
In 1999, my mother, the one other person who was there to share his responsibilities was discovered to have contracted breast cancer. However, it was too late as it had already developed into the advanced stage and it was just a matter of time before she had to leave us. Despite such undesirable news, he never once broke down in front of us. He wasted no time on feeling depressed, but instead, he was forward-looking and worked as hard as he could, to ensure that we would have a bright future ahead.
It was indeed a time of grief and pain when my mother got called home to heaven. I mean, who would not mourn and be devastated over such news? However, knowing that that day would come soon, he was mentally prepared. But of course, he needed time to accept the fact that she was no longer here.
At that point, he took time off from work to spend more time with us, and he showed us that we can always count on him. He was not only a father to us but much more than that, he was our role model, someone we looked up to and someone that instilled in us the knowledge that the most important thing in life is neither money nor popularity, but family.
Though inevitably, people make mistakes. I cannot say that he is someone perfect, because we all know that no one in the world is. Rather, I would say that although he has his imperfections and wrongdoing at times, he uses these life examples to teach me that we must always be just and apologise whenever we are in the wrong. Furthermore, he never fails to teach me the various moral values like courtesy, integrity, empathy and graciousness. What is a rich and successful man if he is selfish and self-centred? He has not accomplished anything.
My father always mentions this to me, “Life is meaningless if all you ever do is wait around for things to happen. It will only be fruitful if you do things yourself. That way, when you look back, you’ll have a sense of true satisfaction.”
I follow that very closely and I set my goals and priorities straight. Because of him, I look at life from a different perspective. I learnt that no matter what life brings, if I am determined and willing to sacrifice the things I want, for the things I need, I will be able to achieve it. I also learnt that being successful in life is not all about how good I am, but how I can use the goodness to help those around me.
To others, a father may just be a father. To me, my father is one who always succeeds in teaching me new things each day, letting me know that there is so much more in life that I can accomplish. He is my hero, my inspiration and the greatest influence in my life.

(Or at least I hope things were like what I've written)

Fiction & fact, go figure.

I don't think you've heard ★

BELLEEE(:
I'm your worst nightmare,
Someone you'd never meet.
I've faced many failures in life,
But I don't reckon that I'm a total loser.
On the contrary...
I'll be your greatest dream,
Someone you'd love and never forget.
